The Berean Way

The Appointed Times of the LORD an overview

Listed below are God’s Appointed Times per Leviticus chapter 23. As we have learned in the past several years these were and are much more than arbitrary times of celebration given to the Israelite people. A comparison reveals to us that these Feasts (Moedim) are God’s wonderful Plan of Redemption rehearsed by the nation of Israel annually. God emphasizes repeatedly through this chapter that these are HIS FEASTS . . . most people refer to them as Jewish feasts which is incorrect! They are:

  1. Passover(Pesach) – The Death of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God
  2. Feast of Unleavened Bread(Chag haMatzot) – The Burial of Jesus

Christ, the Sin Bearer

  1. Wavesheaf day/Firstfruits (Reishit Katzir) – The Resurrectionof

Jesus Christ, the Firstborn from the Dead

  1. Feast of Weeks/ Pentecost  (Shavuot) – The Gift of the

Holy Spirit as Promised by Jesus Christ

  1. Day of Loud Noise/Feast of  Trumpets

(Yom Teruah)

  1. Day of Atonement(Yom Kippur)
  2. Feast of Tabernacles/Feast of Booths/Feast of

Ingathering (Sukkot)

Our Savior’s Death, Burial, and Resurrection make up numbers 1-3 in our list. Number 4 is the Gift of the Holy Spirit. And numbers 5-7 will be the events connected to the Second Coming of Christ, the Blessed Hope of all Believers.

In the Scripture quoted below Jesus confirms that His Mission was not to change God’s law.  Are you thinking that He did change His own law ? Jesus says for you/us not to think that !

Matthew 5:17-18

(17)  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come

         to destroy, but to fulfil.

(18)  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall

in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

  • Jesus specifically says that “one jot or tittle” shall not pass from the law til “heaven & earth pass”.  Have heaven & earth passed ?
  • Jesus also says that “one jot or tittle” shall not pass til “all be fulfilled”. Has all been fulfilled ?
  • Consequently, fulfilled does not mean “put an end to” or “destroy” in the above context.
