The Berean Way

New Life in Messiah

The Messiah . . . Who, what, and why are we concerned with this very ancient word. Books have been written about the Messiah. Songs have been composed and sung in many languages glorifying the Messiah. Does Messiah have a relevance for us now. What has Messiah meant in times of old and does this concept of a Messiah fit into our lives today.

Scores of men have lived and died claiming that they were the Messiah, yet there is only one Man that can be considered to fulfill that role. That Man is, of course, Jesus of Nazareth. He lived a short life on earth some 2000 years ago, yet His life, death, teachings, and influence still impact our world today. To accept Jesus the Christ (which is the Greek transliteration for the Hebrew word Messiah [mâshı̂yach) as the Messiah of Scripture is to enter into the “kingdom of God”, a way of life dedicated to serving God and our fellow man . . . instead of ourselves.

In this foundational article focusing on the promised Messiah proclaimed in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and revealed in the Person of Jesus (Yashua) of Nazareth in the Greek Scriptures (New Testament), our intention is to examine from the Word of God the following:

  • the Biblical meaning of Messiah . . .
  • Biblical examples of this word’s usage in Scripture . . .
  • that a heavenly angelic being Lucifer, now referred to as Satan and the Devil rebelled, continuing his revolt in our world . . .
  • the importance of sin and why it must be dealt with . . .
  • why we even need a Messiah . . .
  • the misunderstood purpose of the Messiah . . .
  • why the Messiah’s mission was/is vitally important to all . . .
  • how to accept the Messiah as your Saviour from sin . . .
