The Word of God (Bible) is an extraordinarily Inspired historical Document witnessing both the history (what happened) and the future (what will happen or prophecy) as they relate to God’s people and the fate of our world. Contained in this One Book made up of sixty-six books is evidence and testimonies providing proof to those with “ears to hear” that there is a God [YHWH] who created all things. It is imperative for Believers to understand and accept that the Writings which we call the Bible are the written Word of God. On the other side of the same coin, it is equally critical to recognize that the One who is historically called Jesus the Christ (Yashua haMashiach) was/is the walking, talking, teaching, and breathing Word of God (YHWH), manifested as a human being (flesh).

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His Glory, Glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.   John 1:14

The Scriptures reveal to us the Mind of God and His Will for each of our lives. These are two important reasons for the existence of the Bible. The world in which we live in provides various answers to the problems and issues we face. Some have merit and some do not, however, in order for us to be counted as the “people of God”, should we not heed the counsel of our Father in heaven? His Son says to us, “My kingdom is not of this world”. We must remember that our world has different values and goals than God’s. The Word of God tells us what to do and not to do.

But He said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep It.   Luke 11:28

Below are just a handful of the Biblical passages revealing His will for us to follow:

  • To Adam & Eve He said “Don’t eat this  .  .  . Genesis 2
  • To Cain He said ” If thou doest not well, sin liest at the door  .  .  . Genesis 4
  • To Israel He said & wrote “Remember the Sabbath  .  .  . Exodus 20
  • To Israel He said & wrote “Honor thy father and mother  .  .  . Exodus 20
  • To the disciples of Jesus He says “If you love Me, keep My commandments  .  .  . John 14
  • To the disciples of Jesus He says “Do this in remembrance of Me  .  .  . Luke 22
  • To the disciples of Jesus He says “Repent and be baptized  .  .  . Acts 2

Yes, the Word of God warns us in advance of the upcoming dangers, guides us towards walking in obedience, and directs us into the Blessings of acting upon His Word.

Three Religions Accept at Least Parts of the Word of God . . .

Old Testament – In Judaism called the Tanack (Torah=first five Books of Scripture, Nevi’im=Books of the prophets, and Ketuvim=all the remaining Writings).

New Testament – These are the writings from the followers (disciples) of Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah of Israel and the whole world.

There are three global religions which uphold the ancient writings of the Hebrews (in part or whole) as the foundation for God’s Word. These three religions (in today’s terminology) are Judaism (named after one of the twelve tribes of Israel), Christianity (named after Jesus the Christ or Jesus the Messiah), and Islam (Islam means “submission” to Allah in Arabic), (Note: all three of these religions have various sub-sects).  How these religions view and understand the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth determines acceptance or rejection of portions of the Christian Bible.

All three of these religions claim to trace back their origins to an ancient patriarch named Abram, and then renamed by God to Abraham. They all profess that the foundation of their faith is from the man Abraham. This common background should be a significant connection to their relationship but unfortunately national, political, and spiritual walls exist even to this day.

‘Judaism’ rejects Yashua, Jesus of Nazareth, as the promised Messiah and subsequently the writings of the New Testament (B’rit Chadashah). Judaism also views and accepts the Oral Law (Talmud & Mishna) as inspired by God (YHWH). Christianity views these writings as an addition to God’s Word and unacceptable as authoritative. Judaism is still looking for the promised Messiah to appear in the future. Judaism does accept Isaac as the promised son to Abraham.

‘Christianity’ accepts Yashua, Jesus of Nazareth, as the promised Messiah to Israel, and indeed to the whole world. To Christianity, the New Testament (Brit Chadashah to the “Messianic” community) is not viewed as an addition to the Old Testament writings. The New Testament reveals  a continuation of the testimony of Godly people who wrote of things they witnessed and of future events as they were inspired by the Spirit of God (Elohim). Christianity understands that the Messiah was to come through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and then through the tribe of Judah culminating In Jesus of Nazareth.

‘Islam’ also rejects Yashua, Jesus of Nazareth, as the promised Messiah, although they do recognize Him as one prophet in a long line of prophets. The path for Islam has been directly influenced by Mohammed (about 600 CE), a prophet accepted by Islam as authoritative. Islam is, like Judaism, looking for a future messiah, called the Mahdi. In a departure from Christianity & Judaism, Islam does not recognize Isaac as the promised son to Abraham. Islam’s position is that Ismael is Abraham’s first born son and therefore the patriarchal line must proceed from Ismael and not Isaac.

To Summaize:

To comprehend the differences in the three monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; and how much of God’s Word they follow is to understand their position concerning the acceptance or rejection of Jesus of Nazareth as the promised Messiah !

The Word of God is Full of Truth . . . It is Absolutely Truthful !

2 Timothy 3: 16-17 reads:

(15) And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

(16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

(17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We learn from the text written to Timothy by the Apostle Paul these basic lessons:

  • A child can learn about salvation through faith in the Messiah, Jesus.
  •

Many Believers in the God of the Bible (YHWH) hold to the position that their Bible is the inerrant Word of God. The perception is that God has provided for us an Infallible Source to learn His Truths. Is this understanding true or not ? This is not an easy question to answer so please be patient and bear with me as we explore some of the intricacies of the Bibles in use today.

Bible – The word Bible is not to be found within Scripture themselves and is relevant exclusively to Believers in Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah. The closest word to Bible is the Greek word  “biblion” meaning “bill, book, scroll, writing” found in Revelation 6:4. Although this word was used to refer to various books, even some Biblical books, it was not originally used to describe God’s Word, either Old Testament, New Testament, or both.

As far as I can tell the following is the progression to the word “Bible”:

The Word of God is full of truth . . . it is absolutely Truthful !

There is no error in God’s Word. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.” Psalms 19: The testimony of the Lord is not only infallible, it is inerrant. Proverbs 30: 5-6 states, “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” The purity of His words does not need anything added to it. God warns us not to misrepresent His scripture.

The Word of God is Complete !

The Bible does not need any new chapters or verses. It is all given to us already. Many cults add their own books or commentaries to the Bible. All you need is God’s Word because it is the Holy Word of God. It is complete. In Revelation 22: 18-19, God gives to us a warning, “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God whall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the Holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

The Word of God is Authoritative !

The book of Psalms 119:89 says “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” The Word of God is the only source for absolute divine authority. This divine authority is for you and me as servants of Jesus Christ. When some say, “I have a word from the Lord for you,” write it down and as you study God’s word see if the Lord speaks to you through His Scriptures. Only then will you know if the Lord is truly speaking to you.

The Word of God is totally sufficient for all our needs !

We don’t need anything else. In 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 it reads “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” We Christians can be totally secure in the Lord by studying the Bible because it is God’s plan for our life.

The Word of God is will accomplish what it promised !

If God told you something will happen, and you wait, it will happen. In Isaiah 55:11 it says, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” God sent His word to accomplish His perfect will in our lives. If God makes a promise to you He will fulfill it in His own time. There are so many promises given to us in the Bible. These promises reassure us and bring comfort to our lives in our times of trial. I challenge you to take time to study the Word of God. The Lord will show you wonderful things that will change your life.
